Marysville Memo
JANUARY 2024
HELLO FROM YOUR ADMIN TEAM
Dear MPS School Families,
Happy new year! We hope this message finds you all in good health and in high spirits as we head into another brand new year!
We are excited to see our students back at MPS and ready to continue with their learning. There are many fun and exciting events and activities that have been planned for our students as we head towards the second term of the school year.
As we continue to combat the whirlwind of winter weather, we continue to encourage students to please dress for the chilly weather, and for all parents and guardians to keep an eye out for an transportation cancelations from Tri-Board.
We value the active involvement of parents in our school community. If you are interested in volunteering or participating in the School Advisory Council (SAC), please reach out to our SAC chair, Judy Gerber-van Vliet @ gerberjk@gmail.com, for more information.
Our next meeting is Monday, February 26 @ 3:00pm.
Thank you for entrusting us with the education and growth of your children. Together, we will continue to create a safe, nurturing, and inspiring environment where every child can thrive.
Wishing you all a wonderful new year full of good health and happiness!
Your partners in education,
Mrs. MacDonald, Mr. Wood, Mrs. Barrett and the Marysville PS Team :)
THANK YOU
A big thank you to Hulton Bus Service for the free pizza lunch on December 22nd! And to the W.I. Fire Dept for the gift card to the WIPP. Everyone enjoyed a pizza lunch to kick off the first week back to school!
SKATING
Both classes will be skating as a whole school on Friday afternoons from 1:30-2:30pm, beginning Jan 12. Helmets are mandatory for all skaters. The school has several helmets and a few sizes of skates. Please let us know if we can be of help.
Parents/guardians are welcome to join us. It is always good to have extra hands to help tie skates!
👉Permission forms are on School-Day. Please be sure to complete both the General Permission form, as well as the Inherent Risk form.
DANCE WORKSHOPS
January 17 & 24
Both classes will be going to Queen's University to participate in private dance workshops. Student volunteers from the Queen's Dance Club will lead students through some new and fun dance techniques. The Queen's Dance Club works with various schools in the Limestone DSB to enhance the dance curriculum. Students will use the new techniques back at school as part of their dance mark this term.
Each session will run from 1:00-2:30 pm. Students should wear comfortable clothing and running shoes so that they are ready to move easily. Everyone should bring a water bottle.
👉Please complete the permission form online on School-Day!
E.A. APPRECIATION DAY
January 19 (and everyday!)
Ask anyone, and they will tell you that our Judi is an E.A. Extraordinaire! Marysville is so grateful for Judi's dedication, support and guidance each and every day. Thank you, Judi, for all of your hard work and support of our students on their learning journey.
BELL LET'S TALK
January 24
By wearing BLUE & WHITE, (symbolic colours for the Bell Let's Talk Day campaign), we can show our support and promote awareness, acceptance and action for mental health initiatives.
SHADOW PUPPET THEATRE WORKSHOP
January 26
Marysville welcomes Birdbone Theatre for a shadow puppet workshop!
Following a brief performance featuring excerpts from Birdbone's production of Broom Dance, students will learn more about shadow puppetry and the incorporation of music. Working with the puppeteers, students will learn to create their own shadow images. The group will then put it all together in a shadow scene with music.
Birdbone Theatre will be conducting a singing workshop on Jan 27, and performance on Jan 28, in Kingston. See posters with links below for more information.
FAMILY LITERACY DAY
January 27
Family Literacy Day takes place every January 27th to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. Since 1999, thousands of schools, libraries, literacy organizations and other community groups have taken part in the initiative. Taking time every day to read or do a learning activity with children is crucial to a child’s development, improving a child’s literacy skills dramatically, and can help a parent improve their skills as well.
MPS students will be focusing on various literacy activities on January 30.

SCHOOL MESSENGER APP
Why Use the SchoolMessenger App?
When you join SchoolMessenger, you will be able to:
- receive important information from LDSB
- join classrooms and extra-curricular groups
- report a student's absence (same day and in advance)
Reporting A Student's Absence:
If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up.
