Marysville Memo
OCTOBER 2021
Principal's Message
We've had an amazing September start up, the staff and students at Marysville hit the ground running. We can't tell you how great it is to be back in the building seeing those wonderful faces of our students! I want to thank all of our families for continuing to screen their children for COVID symptoms before coming to school. We're so grateful for such a caring community.
I'd also like to thank Kayo Murakami, member of our School Advisory Council, who helped organize Marysville's participation in the very moving ceremony in the village on the day of Truth and Reconciliation. The student and staff dedication to learning and reconciliation was truly felt as our students read through some of the 94 calls to action. We continue to learn, respond, respect. We were honoured to be in attendance.
The staff at MPS would like to wish you all a happy and restful long weekend. We are thankful for each other, your children and this community.
All the best,
Mrs. Diamond

Reflections
I am mad that kids got hurt and killed in these schools. -E.O.
I am very sad and mournful about what happened to those kids...I hope that the government will do more to help Indigenous people and communities. -A.R.
It was cool because it was the first Truth and Reconciliation gathering. -E.M.
It is good that we recognize that Indigenous People were mistreated at Residential Schools. -E.V.
I felt like I was going to cry and to think about the kids in the school. -L.C.
Cool, we just made history. It's the first Indigenous remembrance day. -J.W.
I thought it was very cook that our community was taking part in this and some business men and women and a lot of parents and schools. I thought it was very emotional and sad. -R.H.
Today at the Public Dock we held the Truth and Reconciliation Day. I feel sad about all the children who died at the residential schools, of what my ancestors had done to the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit people. We honour the presence in this country, but I believe they rightfully own Canada. -F.MW.
I am happy we know about their history now. -S.B.
Terry Fox Run Update
In 1981, Terry said, "Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going without me."
Marysville is very proud of all of our students (and staff) for keeping this event going and for giving it their best try. Thank you, Terry, for inspiring all of us. And thank you to all of our supporters in helping us to surpass our fundraising goal by raising $476.20!
The recipients of this year's Terry Fox t-shirt draw are Sé and Kiana! Congratulations to both of you. Wear your t-shirts proudly.
The Fox family, together with Métis Nation BC, created the 2021
t-shirt design, which celebrates Terry's heritage (on his maternal grandmother's side). The traditional Métis floral beading represents the flowers from the land on which Terry's ancestors lived. The mission and message "Try like Terry" is shared in English, French and the Métis traditional language of Michif.
