MPS Memo
April 2022
Happy Spring!
There are a few updates, the first being the COVID-19 restrictions/protocol changes effective Monday, March 21st. Here's the rundown:
What is staying the same:
- hand washing/hand sanitizing
- enhanced custodial cleaning
- daily before school screening for staff and students
- availability of masks for everyone in the school if they choose to use them
- we will still send home staff/students who become symptomatic at school and provide RATs if needed
What has changed:
- masks are not mandatory now, it is a personal choice and we will have masks available for anyone who would like them
- we're easing slowly into school enrichment activities (e.g. technology teacher is coming in to the senior class to teach woodworking/sewing, etc.)
We've been informed by the Ministry of Education that EQAO (Gr. 3 & 6 standardized testing) will be running this year. Fortunately they have given us a longer window in which to administer the tests, and we understand that the sessions are shorter. We'll be providing more information as we come closer to that time.
I've been enjoying my time doing some music with both classes. You are raising some talented young people!
As always, please reach out if you have questions or concerns.
All the best to you,
Mrs. Diamond

What's happening in the 5-7 class?
Students continue to work on their project for the upcoming Kingston Regional Heritage Fair. This year's theme is Community, so what better time to welcome W.I. resident, Mickayla Pyke, for a workshop on Setting up an Interview: Basics. Students will be putting these new skills to work when they interview life-long community member, Paul Hogan, as part of their documentary.
On March 24th, Lincoln acted as "teacher for a day" using his classroom money to pay for his day in charge. Elijah and Ethan are eagerly awaiting their "teacher for a day" in April.
Francis received his Caribou Math Contest results and he came in 44th in our whole school board. Congrats, Francis! He is currently preparing for another math contest. Best of luck to him!
Inpired by Mrs. Beers' classes work, the senior class has started a unit of study around Constellations and Myths.
Mrs. Diamond was back for ukelele time! In addition, the talented Ms. E learned a couple of songs on her own to teach the class as well! Students have now mastered the song Ho Hey, by the Lumineers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMpkqW5d2bc
Ms. E.'s class welcomed Tech teacher, Mrs. Rooyakkers, to teach some hand and machine sewing techniques this month. Mrs. R. will return the week of April 25-28 for woodworking!
