Week Ahead @ MPS
May 9-13, 2022
good-bye to mr. b
Hello Marysville PS families,
I have had the pleasure of working at Marysville Public School since September of this school year. I've recently left the school, but wanted to take a quick moment to say goodbye. First off, I want to say thank you to everyone in the school community for being so welcoming, understanding, and constructively with me personally and for being supportive of what we do. I think the school staff, students, and home community are all quite lucky to have one another here. The personal attention and curricular freedom that that students get, combined with the connections formed with the larger Wolfe Island community I witnessed at Marysville PS gives kids an incredibly rewarding education. I think of it as a private school experience with public school ideals, and I think the students really are lucky to be part of it.
I am leaving to work full time at Granite Ridge. I am sad to leave, but I'll have great memories from my time here. I hope you all continue the great work you're doing in doing your part to raise the wonderful kids in the community.
With warm regards,
Adam Bencze (Mr. B)
RUNNING CLUB / TRACK & FIELD
Running Club will continue for grade 3-7 students that are interested in attending this year's track & field meet on May 30th. Practice for field events will begin soon so please ensure your child has appropriate running shoes for training as well as outdoor gym classes. Stay tuned for more details on the meet.
May 12 - Gr 7 Immunizations
May 13 - Field trip
Both classes will be taking part in Science on the Edge, an event along Kingston’s waterfront trail beginning at Confederation Basin and ending at the Pumphouse Museum. Students will have the opportunity to learn about local science and engineering history through hands-on science activities that explain Kingston’s industrial engineering heritage (steam train, compass navigation, boat building, and steam pumps). Thank you to Queen’s Connections Engineering Outreach for this free learning opportunity. Please return permission forms as soon as possible.
May 19 - Documentary Viewing
The grade 5/6/7 class, along with their teacher, Ms. Etmanskie would like to invite you to the viewing of Pay it Forward, a documentary about Wolfe Island Community Volunteering.
Students spent the better part of 3 months working on the short documentary with the help and support of Mickayla Pyke and the participation of Paul Hogan; both fellow Island residents. The class has submitted the documentary for the Kingston Regional Heritage Fair.
Please join us to watch the documentary together as a school community.

COVID PROTOCOLS
Masking
Although masks are no longer required for students, staff, and visitors in schools and on school transportation, masking continues to be strongly encouraged. It should be noted that when schools have crossed the threshold of 30% absences due to COVID-related reasons, KFL&A Public Health has issued a letter indicating that masking is recommended due to the presence of COVID in the school and community. Masks continue to be available daily for all students, as well as PPE for all staff.
Many students and staff are choosing to continue to wear masks at times, or consistently, and we support every student’s (and family’s) decision around masking.
When masking is required (as of March 21, 2022):
- Under federal travel requirements, upon return from international travel, individuals must always wear a mask when in public spaces (including schools and childcare) for 14 days.
- Individuals who are age 11 or younger or fully vaccinated, who tested positive or had symptoms of COVID-19, can return to school or work after their 5 days of isolation if symptoms are improving. They must, however, wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including schools and childcare) and avoid activities where they would need to take off their mask (for example, playing a wind instrument or removing their mask for sports) until 10 days after their symptoms started or from their positive test date.
- Individuals who are a close contact of a case of COVID-19 or a symptomatic individual who are not required to isolate, must wear a well-fitted mask in all public settings (including schools and childcare) for 10 days from their last exposure to the person with COVID-19 symptoms or positive test result (or from when the symptomatic or positive person finishes their isolation).
- Please note that exposures within the school setting are no longer included in the definition of a close contact.
