Marysville Memo
September 2023
Principal's Message
Hello Marysville PS Families,
Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year! We are so excited for another amazing school year filled with learning, wonder, and fun!
Please read through this newsletter carefully as it includes important information about school start-up and first day information!
Our MPS educator staff and team have been busy setting up their spaces and planning for learning, our office administrator, Ms. Posthumus, has been busy preparing for the year ahead and keeping us all organized, and our custodial staff, Ms. Willis has been busy with summer cleaning and the school is looking amazing.
Friendly Reminders:
School property:
- is scent-free
- welcomes service dogs only
- supervision begins at 8:20am before school; end of the day pick up is at 2:50pm
School Supplies & Labelling:
Our school will provide the necessary supplies that you will need for learning. However, if you are looking for back-to-school suggestions from LDSB, here are a few things to think about bringing with you on the first day:
Backpack
Refillable water bottle - labelled with name
Lunch bag with a lunch and snacks
Indoor shoes (with non-marking soles) to be left at school
Extra clothes (for our Kindergarten/primary students)
To avoid your student's clothing ending up in the lost and found, please consider labelling items, such as indoor and outdoor clothing, indoor and outdoor shoes, containers, school supplies, etc.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please reach out. We are here to help, and we look forward to wonderful year ahead :)
Your partners in education,
Mrs. MacDonald, Mr. Wood, Ms. Barrett and the MPS Team :)

SCHOOL-DAY: Online Permissions & Payments
Marysville P.S. is excited to offer our families a secure portal to complete permissions and payments online. With School-Day: Permissions & Payments, you will be able to complete permission forms and payments from any web browser using your SmartPhone, tablet, laptop or desktop.
Through this new online portal, you will be able to pay for items such as:
Field trips
Sporting events
Hot lunch
The easy-to-use portal will remove the risks associated with sending money to school with students, the frustration of lost or missing permission forms, and significantly reduce the amount of paper our school consumes.
Some families have already signed up for School-Day! For those that have yet to do so, an Introduction letter will be coming home with your child. Use the instructions in it to sign up for a School-Day account at www.school-day.com and connect to your child’s events and activities.
With your support, we look forward to a successful implementation of this practical application!
FALL FAIR FIELD TRIP
Students will be attending the Kingston Fall Fair to learn from local farmers, animal keepers, gardeners, community food organizations, and more. Students will spend the day moving from station to station, with each station introducing a different and important aspect of farming and the natural world. Some of the events include sheep shearing, bee and wasp displays, a maple syrup station, horse and rabbit care, a reptile and critter show, a barnyard petting zoo, a scarecrow design competition, chicken coups, a pig run, a steer show, and much more. Each station will speak to an important aspect of agriculture and help students gain a relationship with our agricultural system.
Please complete permission form on School-Day.
TERRY FOX RUN
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22
1:30 pm
Marysville P.S. has proudly taken part in the Terry Fox Run since 1996. In that time our tiny school has raised over $24,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation!
This year we have set a school goal of $300. Please help us to continue Terry's legacy by donating to our school fundraising page at https://schools.terryfox.ca/MarysvillePSWolfeIsland
This year our event will take place in the afternoon beginning at 1:30pm with a warm-up. The run/walk will follow the same course as in previous years. There are two routes, both of which are on and off school grounds. The first route is a 1 km walk through the village, and the second is a 4.5 km run or walk up the 7th Line Rd and back.
We encourage and welcome parents and other family/community members to participate and help supervise students along the way by walking, jogging or by cheering as individuals complete their run.
PA DAY
OPEN HOUSE!
3:00 pm
Parents are invited to visit classrooms and view student work.
Cake & Pie Bingo is back! Come and enjoy the fun and delicious prizes!
STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL (SAC)
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
Immediately following the Open House
Our first SAC meeting date for the 2023-2024 school year will include elections for SAC Chair, Recording Secretary and Treasurer.
All are welcome to attend!
School Councils are important partners in education. School Councils provide a forum through which parents and other members of school communities can contribute to improving student achievement and well-being and enhance the accountability of the education system.
Our School Council meets approximately four times a year, focusing on information sharing and discussion, and sometimes, how to improve student opportunities through fundraising. At each meeting, school administration provides an update on school-related activities and council members may identify topics of interest for presentation/discussion at future meetings or extra special interest sessions.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAY
Marysville has changed photography companies, and is excited to have Edge Imaging taking care of our school photos this year.
Remember to wear your best smile!
MEDICAL PLANS OF CARE
The Limestone District School plays an important role in supporting students with
prevalent medical conditions to fully access school in a safe, accepting, and healthy
learning environment that supports well-being.
If your child has any significant health condition, such as Anaphylaxis, Asthma, Diabetes, and/or Epilepsy, other allergies, or requires medication to be administered and/or medical procedures to be conducted at school, it is imperative that we receive medical plans of care prior to the start of school. Staff need time to become familiar with the information in these plans and may require training from professionals prior to your student starting.
Forms can be found below or on the LDSB website. Please send completed forms to the school or reach out with any questions you may have.
Thank you to those families who have already submitted this information.
SCHOOL MESSENGER APP
Why Use the SchoolMessenger App?
When you join SchoolMessenger, you will be able to:
- receive important information from LDSB
- join classrooms and extra-curricular groups
- report a student's absence (same day and in advance)
Reporting A Student's Absence:
If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up.
